It refers to a comprehensive inspection conducted by an independent third-party inspection agency on the technical condition, fuel inventory, and cleanliness of the cargo holds of a ship at the beginning (On-Hire) or end (Off-Hire) of the charter period, in order to determine the fulfillment of the charter contract and serve as the basis for rent settlement and responsibility division.
Purpose of Inspection
1. Determine the start and end time of the lease term: Confirm the actual condition of the ship at the time of handover to avoid disputes.
2. Bunker Survey: Record the inventory of fuel oil (IFO, MGO) and fresh water for rental adjustment.
3. Cargo hold suitability inspection: Ensure that the ship is suitable for loading the agreed cargo (such as grain, coal).
4. Equipment condition assessment: Verify whether the ship's machinery and navigation equipment are in good condition.
